Flint Water Crisis

Residents and advocacy groups filed lawsuits against city and state officials, as well as private companies involved in the Flint water management decisions, for their roles in the lead contamination of the water supply. These lawsuits claim gross negligence, civil rights violations, and failure to protect public health. In 2021, a $600 million settlement was reached to compensate Flint residents, with funds allocated for health monitoring, special education services, and other community support. The crisis also led to criminal charges against several officials and ongoing efforts to replace the city's lead pipes and ensure safe drinking water.
